About the Role

Kid to Kid Ahwatukee is looking for a proactive, detail-oriented Assistant Store Manager to lead our day-to-day floor and backroom operations. In our store, no two days are the same; We are constantly buying gently used kids' apparel, toys, and equipment from local families and turning it into a clean, organized, and exciting shopping experience.

We aren't looking for someone who just clocks in and stands at a single station. We are looking for an operational problem-solver who walks through the doors, scans the store with an owner's eye, sees what needs attention, and takes initiative. Whether it is jumping in to clear a bottleneck at the buy counter, correcting rack flow on the sales floor, reorganizing backroom inventory, or coaching the team through a busy afternoon rush, you will be the driving force keeping daily operations smooth and efficient.

As you build mastery and trust in our daily operations, this role offers a clear runway to grow into wider responsibilities, including local social media content, marketing execution, and deeper administrative leadership.

What You’ll Do (Day-to-Day Ownership)

  • Operational Floor Leadership: Walk the store continuously to identify and resolve operational gaps without waiting for direction; fixing front counter displays, correcting rack sizing and merchandising flow, maintaining store cleanliness, and keeping backroom inventory organized.
  • Buy Counter & Inventory Control: Master our buying software and pricing standards to evaluate incoming customer buys efficiently. As we bring on and train dedicated buyers, you will oversee the counter's workflow, ensuring quality control, accurate sorting, and steady product output to the floor.
  • Team Coaching & Shift Execution: Lead small teams on the floor, particularly during opening/closing shifts and busy weekend rushes. Keep staff focused, delegate daily tasks, and ensure closing standards and recovery are met every morning/night.
  • Seasonal & Event Execution: Help plan, prep, and lead the store through major retail calendar milestones, including Mid-Season Sales, Semi-Annual Clearance events, Halloween costume drops, Black Friday weekend, and spring/tax season peaks.
  • Social Media & Marketing Support (Growth Opportunity): Partner with ownership to capture engaging in-store content, showcase daily arrivals, and promote upcoming sales on social media.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven Retail Experience: Previous experience in a fast-paced retail environment is required (thrifting, consignment, or resale experience is a huge plus). You understand the natural rhythm and urgency of the retail calendar.
  • Small-Team Leadership: Experience serving as a shift lead, keyholder, or assistant manager with a track record of directing peers positively and holding a team accountable to daily standards.
  • High Initiative ("See a Need, Fill a Need"): You have a natural sense of urgency and pride in your workspace. If a display looks bare, a counter is cluttered, or a rack is out of order, you address it immediately.
  • Physical Stamina: Comfortable working on your feet, moving quickly between the front counter and backroom, and lifting inventory bins up to 30 lbs.
  • Schedule Availability: Open availability yielding 35+ hours per week. Must have strong availability for opening/closing shifts, at least one weekend day (full weekend availability preferred), and mandatory attendance for major promotional sale weekends.

Compensation & Perks

  • Competitive Starting Pay: $16.50 - $16.75/hour based on experience, with a scheduled performance and rate review between 90 and 180 days.
  • Manager Discount: Generous discount on both used and new items after 30 days of employment.
  • Paid Time Off: Eligible for accrued Paid Time Off (PTO) after 1 year in the role, plus standard Arizona Paid Sick Time.
  • Growth Runway: Hands-on mentorship from store ownership with opportunities to expand your role into social media management, scheduling, and higher-level operations as we grow together.
