Weekend and On Call Caregiver

FirstLight Home Care is seeking a reliable, compassionate, and experienced On-Call Caregiver to join our team.

We are looking for a dependable caregiver with required dementia care experience who is willing to rotate weekday and weekend on-call responsibilities with another designated caregiver.

This position involves being available to assist with last-minute caregiver call-outs, emergency coverage, and unexpected scheduling needs. The On-Call Caregiver will report directly to the Care Manager and help ensure continuity of care for our clients.

Required On-Call Availability

• Weekdays (Monday–Friday): 6:00 PM – 9:00 AM the following morning
• Weekends (Saturday & Sunday): 24-hour availability
• Must be willing to rotate weekday and weekend on-call schedules with another caregiver.
• Must be responsive and prepared to accept last-minute assignments during scheduled on-call periods.
• Must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel to different client locations.
• On-call schedules will be coordinated in advance by the Care Manager.

Compensation

• Weekday On-Call Availability: $25 per assigned weekday on-call period.
• Weekend On-Call Availability: $50 per assigned weekend day.
• Shift Coverage: If called in to cover a shift, the caregiver will receive a separate hourly rate for hours worked, in addition to the on-call rate.
• On-call availability compensation is paid for being available during assigned periods, even if no shift coverage is needed.

All compensation is subject to applicable California wage-and-hour requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate and professional in-home care to seniors and adults.
• Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility.
• Provide specialized care and support for clients living with dementia and Alzheimer's disease.
• Demonstrate experience with redirection, behavioral changes, confusion, sundowning, and other dementia-related challenges.
• Provide companionship, meal preparation, medication reminders, and light housekeeping.
• Cover shifts due to caregiver call-outs, emergencies, and unexpected scheduling changes.
• Maintain communication with the Care Manager regarding assignments, client needs, and concerns.
• Promptly report changes in client condition, incidents, or safety concerns.
• Follow individualized care plans and complete required documentation.
• Work comfortably in client homes with pets, including dogs and cats.

Qualifications

• Dementia and Alzheimer's caregiving experience is REQUIRED.
• Must be comfortable working in homes with pets.
• Minimum 2 years of professional caregiving experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of dementia behaviors, redirection techniques, and compassionate communication.
• Active California Home Care Aide (HCA) registration or willingness to obtain one.
• Current TB clearance.
• CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
• Reliable transportation.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
• Must be dependable, responsive, and comfortable working independently.
• Ability to adapt quickly to different clients and care environments.
